VNA of Ohio is Now Hiring  Behavioral Health RN (PRN) for Cuyahoga County

VNA of Ohio is now hiring a Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (Part Time) with competency in Med/Surg and your qualifications and skill set may be an ideal match for this opportunity. This position is PRN for Cuyahoga County. 

Responsibilities

The Behaviorall Health RN primary role is to function independently in providing comprehensive care to patients who are experiencing mental illness - both acute and chronic disease states.  Including but not limited to the following tasks:

 

  • Identifies needs and nursing diagnosis, assigns priorities to plan of care based on holistic approach.
  • Utilizes discharge outcome criteria to evaluate the plan of care for each patient.
  • Individualizes the health care plan of care for each patient.  Appropriately utilizes pre-printed care plans.
  • Demonstrates and maintains clinical expertise in providing care to the patient.
  • Takes responsibility for identifying unmet learning needs and seeks assistance from supervisor and peers to maintain currency with nursing skills.
  • Utilizes appropriate psychiatric nursing skills to meet the unique needs of each patient.
  • Provides for client participation in health promotion, maintenance and restoration. 
  • Collaborates with community agencies to coordinate patient care and facilitate discharge planning.
  • Meets with the Manager at least once per month to communicate status of patients and concerns.
  • Utilizes principles of the nursing process to assist in data collection, planning and evaluation of nursing care.
  • Demonstrates nursing knowledge and skills in the implementation of prevention, therapeutic and rehabilitative nursing care.
  • Utilizes effective interviewing techniques; sets limits, and collects data based on specific role.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with health care providers, third parties, patients and families based on specific role.
  • Explains processes, procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and ease apprehension.
  • Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient. 
  • Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents. 
  • Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol. 
  • Uses oral and written communication to convey pertinent information to members of the health care team in a timely manner.
  • Complies with company policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required forms, reports, time cards, itineraries, etc, accurately and within designated timeframe.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must:

  • 2+ years’ experience in mental health nursing.
  • 1 year experience in medical surgical nursing preferred.
  • Experience in home health care. 
  • Experience working as part of a team and working effectively with persons and communities from diverse cultural, social, and ethnic backgrounds. The ability to work in a complex institutional structure requiring significant collaboration. 
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, within strict time parameters, and with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in written and oral communication

Education/Training/Experience:

 

  • Completion of an accredited RN education program with a diploma, Associate’s or Bachelor's degree.  Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • 2+ years’ experience in mental health nursing.
  • 1 year experience in medical surgical nursing preferred
  • Registered Nurse, licensed in the State of Ohio. 
  • CPR certification is required.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Mental Health requires initial approval/certification by Medicare fiscal intermediary (Palmetto).

 

 

Desirable Qualifications:

 

  • Bi-lingual a plus.
